What is "faux uprooted metal"?

..."Faux uprooted metal"
is the layered paint finish that I paint on my relief painting frames.
When I lived out in Woodbury, Vermont, I
used to walk the old railroad roadbed. Two big old Shay steam locomotives used to
haul granite from the Woodbury quarry down to the granite sheds in neighboring
Hardwick. Needless to say, I was always intrigued with old metal discoveries out
there in the woods. ...I don't miss the Woodbury winters, but I took with me the
memory of what old metal looks like when it's jutting out from among the roots and
leaves and rocks. This look ...of old metal that can be uprooted out in the woods... is
the look I've sought to capture in my "faux uprooted metal" frame finish.
