Wayne Pearson Relief Artist, Sculptor, Painter LPG Compression Molder Click to enlarge I built a propane-fired compression molder
to form thermoplastic sheet into wheels in rigid aluminum molds. This was to explore
manufacturing thermoplastic spoked wheels for model kits. The molder
worked, but with too much flash. A much more elaborate mold would have
to be used, to cut or drain away the flash. The wheels above were formed
from a plastic CD mailer. As you can see, there is a lot of flash, and I was not
able to break it away by hand.
